Sunday, Post op day 4:
Today is the day we are supposed to be prepared for… (per the pain specialist) because he was turning off Riley’s epidural to see how well he tolerated the pain. It is day 4 with it in and the risk of infection is starting to increase. We were told this would be the worst day because he would finally feel the pain of the surgery. So Saturday night we asked everyone to pray.

Well…. It worked!!! They turned it off at 6:00 in the morning then gave him a dose of Morphine at 7:00 a.m. an he didn’t need another dose until 11:15, when we got up to walk!!!!
This is a miracle they said, most kids need morphine every 15 minutes for quiet a while to get on top of the pain. So they pulled the epidural out about 1:00p.m. and he has done amazing!!
I was expecting such a crappy day but I am the happiest mom in the world right now! Nothings bringin' this girl down today!
Riley’s attitude is a lot better, he’s not sad today! Except when we get him up to WALK of course!! Yes… I said WALK!! He did awesome! He took about 5 steps to the wheel chair and his reward was to play Super Mario Bros. with mom!!
Then when he got out of the wheel chair, he walked 5 more steps to the bed! His reward for this is a good long nappy!! Mommy get’s that reward too!!!
… the even better news today is, he DIDN’T throw up!!!! Yay!!! His belly is getting better!!
Later today........MAJOR NEWS……. Nose/Belly Tube is OUT!!!! And we have 1 happy kid!!!! He can’t eat or drink yet, but he can have a popsicle!!
Nothing but cheers and smiles here!! My heart is as happy as if I won a million dollars! I haven’t seen that smile for so many days! He even wants to open and play with his gifts now! Whew, what a wonderful day!
I know this day didn’t go smooth by a miracle, it was our army of family, friends, and even strangers that are helping us, praying for us and keeping us in their thoughts. We FEEL everything! We are extremely blessed! THANK YOU.
Brandy, this is Ginger. Amber's sister. I just wanted you to know that you have been in our thoughts and prayers all week. I hope things continue to look up. Hang in there!

ReplyDeleteI look so forward to your updates each day. Love the pictures but especially love the progress that Riley is making. So proud of all of you. Brave little Riley, Big brother Hunter, the love of both you and Chris for each other and your boys. How inspirational you are to all of us. Our day to day problems have shrunk to nothingness. We love you all. Tell Riley and Hunter that I am sending over the rest of my otter pops for them.
